Interest Makes You Interesting
Why genuine attention creates more authority than self-presentation.
People are rarely drawn to the person who talks most about themselves. They are drawn to the person around whom they feel seen. Genuine attention is therefore an authority lever.
Whoever listens, responds, asks, and visibly goes along creates in the other person the feeling: my words land. That builds trust and opens depth. Authority here is not dominance but leadership through attention. The strongest person in a conversation is not always the loudest. Often it is the person who holds the room so that others open up.
Have a conversation where you don't try to seem interesting. Just try to be genuinely interested.
